Top 500 Albums: Part One

So in 2003 and 2012 Rolling Stone came up with lists of the top 500 albums. The two lists were very similar, as I recall only about 30-50 albums changed between the two (that is, were new additions or removed entirely - not changes in ranking).

I listened to all of them in 03 and then tracked down the new additions in 2012. I agree with many of their choices, and, based on the 2012 list, added or already owned 277 of them for my own collection.

Recently I finally surpassed owning 500 albums. A major difference between the two lists, though, is that my 500 does not include 'greatest hits', compilations, or anthologies which the Rolling Stone (RS) list does. Also my list is broader - while RS has a few token jazz albums, for example, mine has quite a few. I also have Broadway albums and soundtracks, which are totally absent the RS list, and finally my list is a more global in feel - theirs has fewer than ten non-English titles.

So without further ado here's part one of five, in standard RS reverse order, of my Top 500 Albums:
